The Coast Indians rarely ate deer-meat in the old days. They had children eat it in the Wolf Ritual to show they were living on the same food as the wolves. Indians at Alberni eat it now. Huupachas Indians always ate deer meat and bear meat. Long ago whale hunters were not allowed to eat dear meat. If they did, it would make whale wild like deer, so that they would run quickly. This taboo applied only to whalers, not sealers or sea lion hunters.

Different from Jimmy George's Wolf Ritual. There dancer comes out and dances only once, then is replaced by another, and so on. After all finished, he comes out again, and so on; four times in all. Other dances that time were: ass (for Alex Thomas before he was born; Mrs. Douglas deputed dance to another boy. Knew it would be boy because told by Indian woman. Always foretell easily).

In 1911 Capt. Bill had Wolf Ritual. They had as imitative dances: tiiɬiin̉ak "Octopus dance" (Frank Williams' boy who died); t̉iick̉in (Frank Williams' girl, then baby, now three years old. her name is ʔasmuuʔuk); k̉ayupqin̉ak 'panther' (Big Fred's boy, then named č̉ookn̉is "little sparrow", now qayuuɬtak "something of his lost out of canoe"); ʕaɬmaquħ (Peter Kishkish's boy), Roy and Cultus Bob doing actual dancing; pukmis (John Dick's two little girls; one named ħeeχwaʔis); k̉ack̉am̉atqin̉ak 'butterfly' (has special song; for Gallic's two little girls).
