They were from some unknown place and could not speak Nootka. All they said when chief talked to them was k̉oc̉ai which nobody could understand. Man found on island, however, married youngest daughter of Ecoole chief. Later on older lines died out, so that youngest daughter's line gradually rose in rank. Hence Santo claims chieftainship of Ecoole in opposition to Cultus Bob. Slavery story has not been forgotten. Once Frank William's grandfather and Santo's brother had quarrel and former twitted (??) latter with slave origin. He was so ashamed that he nearly cried (Frank Williams).
